The Bloom Report Vol 21 [Bloomology]

News, Resources, Opportunities, and Possibilities for Black and Brown women working in tech

A safe space for Black women in tech to flourish and live life in full bloom

Welcome To Friday! 📆

We are 6 weeks and 2 days away from 2024!

WOW! I know we are have sayings like “ I don’t know where the time went” and “The time is just flying” but really the time is as it always was.

After reading the book ( I highly recommend it by the way) The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, I’ve completely changed my mindset and outlook on time.

I have been very intentional and thoughtful about my time and how I use my time, creating new language around speaking about time.

Thinking about past time wasted and future time that you don’t have yet is really a waste of time. No pun intended…

All we have is now and the things we can do in the now. No other time period exsists.

That’s deep gif. Touch and agree with me!

As I approach 2024, I’ve been thinking about my self-development and personal growth plan as it relates to my career. I’ve been in deep thought about the skills I’m developing and plan to develop and I am going to use them.

That had me researching the top in-demand skill predicitions for 2024, which ones I’m prioritizing learning and why. Personally, I don’t want to learn anymore skills for my current role or to use in my current company nor in my next company. Not really trying to move up the corporate ladder on behalf of a company anymore.

In 2024, and beyond I will use any skills gained for my consulting business or personal brand. I’m focused on the SELF in self-development! Especially, considering God is pushing me toward full-time creative entreprenuership in a way that I can’t run from or finessce my way out of (more on this later).

My process is still stacking and then packaging the skills creating an offer to consult with soloprenuers, small businessness, startups. My goal was always to become work optional by 40, so it’s grind time now. Try, test, do, improve, rinse and repeat.

Here are the top skills I am working on developing now to get to my future goals:

  1. Generative AI - Building my own custom Chat GPTs and developing advanced prompting skills

  2. Complex Problem Solving - Learning more about automated processes and systems using AI and other distruptive technologies to solve more complex challenges. Strengthening my critical thinking and analytical abilities.

  3. Enhancing Empathy and Emotional Intelligence - Focusing on improving my self-awareness and leading with empathy and compassion.

The only thing that’s constant is time and change. The best thing you can do is continously evolve and continously learn to set yourself up for sucess in this forever changing technology driven job market.

As we head into the last month of the year, here's how you can prepare yourself now for the future of work. Here are some of the top skills that will be in high demand in 2024 and advice on how to prepare yourself for the jobs of the future.

👩🏾‍💻Digital Fluency - Technology continues to evolve rapidly, and employers will be looking for workers who can adapt and thrive in a digital environment. Take time to improve your software skills and get comfortable working with data and AI. Stay on top of workplace tech trends. Being digitally fluent will be essential no matter what field you work in.

👩🏾‍💻Adaptability & Learning Agility - Change will be a constant. Accept that you'll need to continuously learn new skills throughout your career. Identify strengths you want to develop and skills you want to acquire. Make learning a lifelong habit, not just something you do for a job. This is career ownership 101. Issa lifestyle.

👩🏾‍💻 Collaberation - Effective cross-channel communication and being able to communicate up, down and across, cross-functionally is such as clutch skill to have. Being able to communicate effectively with a mix of internal and external stakeholders, clients, managers, or customers will always be a valuable skill that can drive teamwork, innovation and business success.

Of course machine learning, cybersecuirty, digital marketing, content marketing, and user experience top the list of clutch skills again.

Alot of this learning can be done for free or through low cost courses on LinkedIn, Coursera, Udemy, and reading Harvard Business Review stuff. Lead the change - don't let it lead you sis. Stay ready out here….

Cheers to the weekend love!
