A safe space for Black women in tech to flourish and live life in full bloom

Welcome To Friday! ๐Ÿ“†

Happy International Womenโ€™s Day!

Our most important work in Bloomology is closing the confidence gap and the then the pay gap. The two go hand in hand.

We were thinking of some ways to celebrate IWD 2024 in some non-traditional, more actionable ways. We decided to focus on ten actionable ways to celebrate this year and empower yourself or other women.

Celebrating International Women's Day in non-traditional, impact-oriented ways means going beyond mere recognition and instead fostering meaningful change and empowerment for women. Here are ten actionable ways to do just that:

1. Mentorship Programs Across Generations: Establish a mentorship program that pairs young women and girls with experienced professionals in their field of interest. This initiative bridges the generation gap, provides role models, and empowers younger women by giving them direct access to guidance, advice, and inspiration.

2. Skill-Share Workshops in Underserved Communities: Organize skill-sharing workshops in underserved communities, focusing on practical skills like coding, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. These workshops can help women gain independence, start their own businesses, and improve their economic status.

3. Encourage pay transparency: Push for organizations to be more transparent about their pay practices, salary ranges, and compensation philosophies. This can help expose disparities and hold employers accountable.

4. Advocate for regular pay audits: Call on employers to conduct comprehensive pay audits to identify and address gender-based pay gaps within their workforce. Audits should analyze compensation across roles, levels, and performance ratings.

5. Demand equal opportunities for advancement: Highlight the need for equal access to high-paying roles, promotions, and leadership positions for women. Challenge systemic barriers to career advancement. Go where you are celebrated and rewarded not tolerated.

6. Promote salary negotiation training: Encourage organizations to provide salary negotiation training specifically for women to help them advocate for fair compensation.

7. Highlight women's achievements: Use International Women's Day as an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments and contributions of women in various fields and industries.

8. Support for Female Entrepreneurs: Create or contribute to a network of support for female entrepreneurs, offering resources like business development training, networking events, and access to microfinance. This empowers women to build and grow their businesses, contributing to economic diversity.

9. Digital Literacy Campaigns: Launch digital literacy campaigns that provide women and girls with the skills to navigate the digital world safely and effectively. This includes understanding digital rights, privacy, and how to use digital platforms for entrepreneurship and education. Also learning and mastering emerging technologies and digital skills will best prepare and position you for the future of work

10. Promote and Acknowledge Other Women: The best thing we can do to support each other, empower each other, and break glass and concrete ceilings is to speak each other names and champion each otherโ€™s work when they are not in the room and you are.

Celebrate International Women's Day with these non-traditional, impact-oriented actions to help create lasting changes. How are you celebrating another woman this year?
