In Bloom Issue v3
๐โ๏ธ Letter from the Editor
Dear Bloom Community,
Numbers donโt lieโand neither do our lived experiences.
In April 2025, while the broader U.S. economy added 175,000 jobs, Black women lost over 106,000. Our unemployment rate jumped by a full percentage pointโfrom 5.1% to 6.1%โin just 30 days. No other demographic group saw this kind of drop.
Not white women. Not Hispanic women. Not men.
Just us.
Why? Well, thatโs all because of the girls who are now fightingโฆ..Elon and Trump and their gutting of DEI initiatives, cuts in federal roles, and a shift in workplace cultures that no longer pretend to protect us.
But let me be clear: this is not a moment of defeat. This is a portal.
As a Future of Work and Workplace Innovation research strategist and a Black woman myself, Iโm not here to sugarcoat whatโs happening, but I am here to reframe it. This isnโt just a labor statistic; itโs a call to build power and own our narratives at the intersection of skill, story, and strategy.
Black women are the most educated, the most entrepreneurial, and the most adaptable demographic in the labor force. We are not disposable. We are disruptive by design. But to survive and thrive in this era of AI, skills-first hiring, and workplace volatility, we need a new playbook.
One rooted in self-mastery, brand intelligence, and future-proof thinking.
So this issue is for youโthe woman wondering what comes next, the one who's been laid off, overlooked, or underestimated. Itโs for every Black woman professional navigating uncertainty with quiet power and bold vision.
This isnโt the end of your career. This is the beginning of your rebrand.
Letโs decode whatโs really happeningโand how we rise.
